Friends it’s no accident that the word “discipline” comes from the root word “disciple” as Jesus in John 8:30-32 admonishes those who responded to His words in verse 30 to continue to be “disciplined” in His word.
The world is interested in how little it can do to maintain, but if we are truly following Jesus we will be the exact opposite, wanting to be gluttons of His word never being satisfied. Hey did you notice that Jesus said that they we are to abide in HIS WORD? Now if I were to say such a thing with these promises it would be the height of arrogance, but not so when Jesus says it, as doing so allows us to shed those things that weigh us down and ensnare us.
So to be a follower of the “Word made flesh,” we must make our home in His word! Jesus isn’t just speaking of an academic pursuit here, no He is speaking of living in His word and applying its truths to our lives.
