In Mark 16:7-8 Jesus sends two women to tell the rest of the disciples that He was alive. What is not immediately recognized also in Matthew’s account is Jesus’ use of the phrase “My brethren” in conjunction with His disciples. This is the first time He calls them this and it’s after their greatest failure! Which one of us has not felt as though at times Jesus is ashamed of us? Look at this phrase, “My Brethren”, in light of the fact that these disciples had totally blown it. And also consider the fact that Jesus sends these ladies to tell them that they are still “His family” and it is the greatest proof of the resurrection and grace! No matter how many mistakes we continue to make, Jesus still calls us family! Furthermore He wants you to know that He longs for you to realize that He considers you His family! But there is obedience involved, you’ve got to go to where He is. We now have no excuses to stay in death, defeat, and despair. Let go and meet Him that we may worship at His feet and hear Him call us family!
